Getting past your inner circle

One of the most common early frustrations is this: you share consistently, but your friends and family don't seem to be buying. It can feel discouraging, but it's worth reframing.

It's not their job to support you

Your close friends and family aren't obligated to buy from you just because you're sharing. Some people simply prefer other products, and that's okay. Once that clicks, it actually opens things up — because it means the real opportunity is with everyone else.

Think in circles

Most people have a small group of close friends, a larger extended family, and a wider circle of acquaintances. Beyond all of that, there's a much larger group of people who might genuinely be interested — you just have to find a way in front of them.

A few ways to reach beyond your circle

  • Ask your inner circle for referrals, not purchases — people are often more willing to introduce you to someone else than to buy themselves
  • Ask customers for reviews or referrals once they've tried something they like
  • Join groups or communities where your audience already gathers, and share naturally rather than just posting a link
  • Grow an email list — see growing your email list for how to start

Getting comfortable with "no"

Not everyone will be interested, and that's normal. Your job isn't to convince anyone — it's simply to invite and share honestly. The people who are a good fit will find their way to you.

Growth rarely happens by staying only where it's comfortable. It takes a little time, but reaching beyond your inner circle is where most of the opportunity actually is.
